CEO Bio: Amy Bates
Personal and Professional Journey
Amy Bates, the founder and driving force behind AmyStaff, has a storied career that spans over 30 years in the staffing industry. Amy values hard work, resilience, and community involvement. She takes pride in the more than 1,000 life-changing and business-altering employee and consultant placements she has made over the years, nationally, and in multiple sectors. The close personal relationships that she has fostered bring her great pleasure and she delights in being able to help clients and candidates over and over again.
Career Highlights
After graduating from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Amy moved to Los Angeles and embarked on a career in social work as a counselor and eventually the director of a counseling center, where she realized the importance of empathy and communication.
From there, she was recruited into a national technical sales and training role growing business within the company’s key accounts where she learned to hustle and work tirelessly to ensure best results for her clients and team.
After moving to Chicago, she co-founded an executive search firm focusing on the nonprofit sector, where she realized her true calling – matching candidates and clients in exciting, enriching employment scenarios for all.
Amy later moved to St. Louis where she became immersed in the Information Technology (IT) staffing world. For 20 years, she has been placing IT professionals in consulting and permanent roles all over the country, and moved into the management of high-producing recruiting, sales and operations teams. Once she became COO, she realized that where she belongs is in the culmination of all of this experience- her own firm, AmyStaff.
Family and Personal Life
While living in St. Louis, Amy found herself suddenly a single mom, and balanced her professional life with raising her three daughters alone, embodying the strength and perseverance she now brings to AmyStaff.
Luckily, she met her husband, Lee in a coffee shop and decided to marry him, especially when she discovered that he was a single dad of seven kids! They raised this large, blended family, of 10 kids together, who all turned out to be highly successful, nice people! They also grew up to have their own families, and so far, Amy and Lee have 10 grandchildren, and are grateful for them every day. These diverse experiences of living in different places and managing a large family have enriched her perspective and approach to business, making her a relatable and empathetic leader.
